About the artist ...
Her name may be hard to pronounce, but appreciating and enjoying her original songs and performance style couldn't be easier. The German-born singer-songwriter (AN-tyuh DOO-va-kot) will be making her 4th Rose Garden Coffeehouse appearance in five years on Saturday, January 21, at 8 pm. And she expects to have copies of her brand new album, "New Siberia," which has been in the works for the past year.
Duvekot's rise over the past 5 years has been swift and sure. Dave Marsh, reviewer for Rolling Stone, has said of her, "...terrific writer and singer, with the instincts to do things right, over and over and over.” In rapid succession, she produced a critically-acclaimed first album, performed at the Newport Folk Festival, won the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, the Kerrville (TX) "Best New Folk Award," the Boston Music Award for "Outstanding Folk Act," and garnered numerous other writing and performing prizes.
Antje tours extensively, having criss-crossed the US and Europe numerous times. She is a compelling live performer and has been invited to play some of the top venues including Mountain Stage, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and the Kerrville Folk Festival. Internationally, she's headlined the The Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and the Tonder Festival in Denmark. Her song "Merry Go Round" was even featured in a national TV campaign for Bank of America heard by millions in a worldwide broadcast of the Super Bowl.
Her debut album was followed by "The Near Demise of the High Wire Dancer" produced by folk icon Richard Shindell. Her brand new album, "New Siberia," is being completed now and is expected to be available at the Rose Garden performance. As with all her music, these new songs tell personal stories in simple, stunning detail with stellar but uncomplicated guitar accompaniment for her soft, almost whispery voice. Says Rose Garden Artistic Director Mac McLanahan, "We have been thrilled to watch as Antje has moved into the top echelon of folk performers. And it was just 5 years ago she was an unknown opening act at one of our shows. This will be her 4th Rose Garden appearance and we are anxious to see her again."
